The Diggers Garden School is empowering the next generation of gardeners to become champions of sustainability and stewards of the environment.
The first step is to design a dedicated space at Heronswood: an outdoor classroom where local children can learn about the importance of biodiversity, growing heirloom plants in a changing climate and the future of food security.
The six lessons on offer will be aligned with the Victorian curriculum, ensuring the program complements learning already taking place in schools.
From little things big things grow – the lifecycle of plants
Plant power – the world is made of plants
Ecosystems – all things have a purpose
Pollinator gardens – invertebrate biodiversity
My food garden – growing at home
Pesky weeds – invasive species
Diggers Garden School is set to launch in Term 4 2026 and registrations are now open for a limited number of subsidised sessions. Please email your interest to learn@diggers.com.au.
With the help of the Sunshine Foundation, we look forward to meeting and inspiring the gardeners of tomorrow.
