After years of dedication, perseverance and advocacy, we are delighted to announce that The Diggers Foundation has been endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).
A deductible gift recipient (DGR) is an organisation that can receive donations that are tax deductible. This means donors can claim eligible donations of $2 or more as a deduction from their taxable income when lodging their tax return.
This is a landmark achievement for the foundation and one that has been in the making since our establishment in 2011. It represents far more than a change in tax status – it is a powerful recognition of the vital role that gardening, seed conservation and plant diversity play in creating a more sustainable future.
For almost 50 years, The Diggers Club and The Diggers Foundation have championed the preservation of heirloom and rare seeds, helping to protect genetic diversity that underpins resilient food systems and healthy ecosystems. As climate change places increasing pressure on our environment and food security, this work has never been more important.
Our DGR endorsement reflects a growing recognition across the wider community, including government institutions, that conserving plant diversity, safeguarding heirloom seeds and promoting organic gardening practices are essential environmental outcomes. It acknowledges the contribution The Diggers Foundation makes to environmental sustainability and to helping communities adapt to a changing climate.
The endorsement is also a significant vote of confidence in everything that has already been achieved through the foundation’s work. More importantly, it opens the door to what we can achieve next.

Tax-deductible donations
For the first time, supporters can make tax-deductible donations directly to The Diggers Foundation. These gifts will help fund vital conservation, education and seed preservation work, creating a lasting impact for future generations. DGR status also enables the Foundation to access new sources of philanthropic support, including Private Ancillary Funds, charitable trusts and other structured giving vehicles, strengthening our ability to deliver on our mission.
Most importantly, this milestone strengthens our ability to honour and extend the extraordinary legacy of our founders, Clive and Penny Blazey.
Their vision was always about more than gardening. It was about protecting biodiversity, preserving knowledge, building resilient communities and ensuring future generations inherit a richer, more sustainable world.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported the foundation’s journey to this point. With DGR endorsement now secured, we look forward to growing our impact and inviting members, donors and philanthropic partners to help us write the next chapter in the Foundation’s story.
