This October marks 15 years since The Diggers Club opened its garden shop within the Adelaide Botanic Garden, bringing more than 450 varieties of heirloom seeds, rare plant varieties and rich horticultural knowledge into one of the state’s most treasured public gardens.

Housed on the Schomburgk Pavilion, near both the Museum of Economic Botany and the newly revitalised Mediterranean Garden, the shop has become a fixture for gardeners across South Australia – a place to source seeds, plants and expert advice, set against the backdrop of a garden with its own long history of botanical collections and conservation dating back to the 1850s.

Over this time, the Diggers shop has been a pivotal meeting point for South Australia’s gardening community where growers, seed-savers and first-time gardeners gather to do more than shop the Diggers range – to talk, learn, share knowledge and keep alive gardening stories that might otherwise disappear.

As we have evolved to meet the needs of our region, we have increasingly focused on dry-climate plants, rare edibles and hard-to-source trees, many of which are growing in the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

Fifteen years on and we are continuing to thrive thanks to the community that has grown with us, our family of gardeners – both new and old hands. We look forward to celebrating our milestone with you all.

Stay tuned to our socials and emails for details of how you can help us celebrate in early October.
